Expand your market with hotel public relations

Oct 23, 2025 | Hotels + Resorts

Want me to come and stay at your hotel in paradise? I’ll need to find you first, and then I’ll need to trust your brand. Hotel public relations can build confidence in your brand and expand your market through earned media coverage.

We see the hotel ads during our favorite weekly show or while listening to our favorite podcasts, but do we see you featured in the news? Do we hear you as an actual guest on our favorite travel podcasts? Business podcasts?

Whether you’re trying to reach investors or simply book more guests, an experience PR team can craft a detailed plan to get you there.

First, what is earned media? If you pay to appear on a podcast, or pay to appear on a morning news segment, that’s advertising. Earned media coverage means free media coverage. For example, in Breaking Travel News there’s a headline that reads “Hilton has signed six new luxury hotels in Asia-Pacific.” This is earned media coverage.

Your company news is of interest. If you have a recent hotel purchase, or new partnership, let the media know. There is a plethora of travel journalists who want to stay up to date on all things in the industry.

Have an interesting promotion? Most of the time these will fall under marketing or advertising because of the nature of the language used. However, sometimes there are events like Ten Cent Beer Nights that can be newsworthy. Now, this is a good example of bad publicity, but if you have a noteworthy promotion like “Mom’s stay for free in May,” these can be of interest to the media because of the uniqueness and feel-good angle of the story.

These are just a few examples of items that can get you earned media coverage. Actually putting the plan into place and getting the news out there will require a detailed strategy.
